They told me my course was useless. 😶

"Oil and Gas? Where will you work? The oil isn't even flowing yet."

I heard it so many times that I started to believe it.

Then I found myself in a room at Makerere University, on the Hill, with engineers, farmers, IT people, economists and policy people, all looking at the same question:
"How do we turn what we know into something Uganda actually needs?"

Nobody there asked me to throw my background away. They asked me what problems I could solve WITH it.

That changed everything. 💡

I stopped seeing my course as a mistake and started seeing it as a lens. The discipline, the systems thinking, the safety mindset I learned from oil and gas now shape how I build technology.

Innovation isn't a course. It's a way of looking at what you already have.

So if someone has ever laughed at your course, hear me: nothing you learned is wasted. You just haven't found the problem it was meant for yet.
