School story · Tip #4
Picture a small primary school on a hill outside Masaka.
The head teacher knew why the school began. The teachers knew parts of it. But nobody had ever written the story down.
So on school tours, parents heard a list. Classes. Uniforms. Rules. Term dates. They nodded politely and walked away. Many chose another school.
Then one holiday, the staff sat together under the big mango tree. They asked simple questions. Why did we start? Who did we start for? What will we never give up?
They wrote the answers in plain words. The school started so village children would not walk far to learn. It stands for honesty, hard work and care for every child.
They painted the story on a board by the gate. Every teacher learned to tell it in their own words.
The next term, tours felt different. Parents slowed down. They asked questions. They saw their own hopes in the school's story. Families began to choose the school, and they stayed.
The school had not changed its classrooms. It had found its voice.
Lesson: when parents understand why your school exists, they trust you with their children.
