How do you actually get users?

Sometimes they come by pure luck. Other times you pay for ads, work with influencers, post every single day... and still nothing moves.

I've even thought about turning this into university research: why some products catch on while others with the same effort don't. But even there, I find very little that explains it for startups in our context.

So I'm asking the people who've lived it:
