Advice to new AI startups who want to win the market 🚀
Don't build your AI model from scratch. Build ON TOP of the best ones.
Training a large AI model takes huge budgets, massive computing power and years of research. Companies like Anthropic, OpenAI and Google have already done that work, and their models are available to you today.
Your real advantage isn't the model. It's:
🎯 The specific problem you solve
👥 How well you understand your customers
🌍 Local context: languages, payments, how business works here
⚡ Speed: shipping in weeks, not years
Integrate Claude, GPT, Gemini or open models like Llama. Connect them to your users' real tools (standards like MCP make this easier). Then spend your energy on what customers actually feel.
Two smart habits:
✅ Design your product so you can switch AI providers easily
✅ Adapt or fine-tune existing models when you need something specialised
Building from scratch makes sense if you're doing research, or creating something truly new, like models for under-served African languages. For everyone else: integrate, specialise, distribute.
The winners won't be the ones with their own model. They'll be the ones who solve real problems fastest.
