School story · Tip #5

Picture a director walking past the science lab at the end of term.

She stops at the door. She does not say, "Good job." She tells the chemistry teacher, "Your S.3 chemistry class improved this term."

The teacher looks up, surprised. For weeks, he has stayed late to mark practicals. He has taught hard topics a second time when they did not land. He wondered if anyone noticed.

Now he knows someone did.

That one sentence changes his holiday. He plans new experiments. He prepares simpler notes for the learners who struggle. When the new term opens, he walks into the lab early, ready.

His students feel the difference. The lessons are clearer. The lab feels alive. A class that once feared chemistry now stays behind after the bell to ask questions.

Nothing else about the school changed. No new building. No new budget. Just a leader who looked closely and said exactly what she saw.

General praise is easy to forget. Specific praise tells a teacher, "I see your work, and it matters."

The lesson: when you praise a teacher, name the exact class or effort, because specific praise is what makes people give more.
