A school is a mission. It is also a business.
Many schools in Africa have great teachers and still struggle. Not because of poor teaching, but because of weak business systems.
Five strategies every school owner and director should think about:
1. Know your real cost per student. Then set fees that keep the school running, not just full.
2. Protect cash flow. Plan for the months when fees come in slowly, before they arrive.
3. Keep parents as your best marketers. A happy parent brings two more families.
4. Keep good teachers. Losing a strong teacher mid-year costs more than paying them well.
5. Decide with records, not guesses. Enrolment, fees and results should be clear to you every week.
Good teaching keeps a school alive. Good strategy helps it grow.
Which of these is hardest for your school right now?
