A few months ago I shared how geofencing could track real attendance. ๐Ÿ“

Some people laughed. "You're tracking people like goats now?" ๐Ÿ

But I had noticed something simple: today people keep their phones closer than anything. Faces and fingerprints need machines at the gate. A phone is already in every pocket. I believed this approach could work in most cases, around 80%.

So I built it into attendify.site. Schools were happy to see it working, with teachers checking themselves in.

Today, I'm seeing similar features appear in other systems here in Uganda.

I'm not claiming I invented geofencing. I didn't. But it raises a hard question about intellectual property (IP) in software:

What protects a small builder with zero distribution channels?

What I've learned:
๐Ÿ”’ Copyright protects your CODE, not your IDEA. Anyone can build the same idea in their own way.
๐Ÿ“œ Patents rarely protect software ideas, and they are slow and expensive.
๐Ÿท๏ธ Your brand name can be protected. Register your trademark.
๐Ÿค Your customers' trust can't be copied. Relationships are a moat.
โšก Speed matters. Keep improving faster than people can copy.
๐Ÿค Share the problem publicly. Keep the "how" private.

In software, the idea is rarely the asset. Execution, trust and distribution are.

Fellow builders, has this happened to you? How do you protect your work? ๐Ÿ‘‡
